Who'll take the Euro Cup? (Discussion)

oLahav saidMon, 09 Jun 2008 20:08:41 -0000 ( Link )

Let the bets begin!

What team do you think (or want, whichever) will win this one? It’s a hard one this time to guess, isn’t it? Everyone’s at the same level…

I’m crossing my fingers for the Netherlands… but I’ve got a stronger feeling Portugal is going to go far this time around. But who knows, right?

So what does everybody else think? Come on, let’s hear some views!

Gotta say, I was disappointed that both Ireland and England didn’t even qualify this tournament. What fun is it if we don’t even give England a chance to fail?

I think Spain has a good chance at ending their trophy drought and I’ll be cheering for them but from what I read just now the Dutch looked quite good against Italy…

I too placed my money on Portugal and hope they take it all. It is difficult to tell so far because other clubs are playing well and it wont be easy. Watch out for Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Thats the beauty of the tournament, its wide open. GO Portugal !!!

I agree Dan, it’s not the same without England. But Ireland? Come on…

This is a wide open tournament… but if Greece wins again, it would be nuts. (Though Sweden just beat them, so it’s highly doubtful).

Anybody thinks either Austria or Switzerland has a chance of getting far? It is their home fields, after all…

I’m clearly behind the times, but why isn’t England at the Euro Cup?

How wrong is it that I’m basing my hopes of who wins based on how much noise will be made in my neighbourhood? After Portugal’s win last Sunday, and the 6 hours of horn honking madness that ensued, I’d be happy if they didn’t win anymore games.

Honestly though, since I based all my sports picks on who i don’t like, I’m happy as long as the Italians don’t win. I”m still bitter over the last World Cup.

Sorry for the inconvenience but Portugal won again, and they will many more I hope. It’s a shame that you did not partake with the celebrations, its fun. Perhaps a non-football fan would not understand. Go Portugal!

I have to agree with earlier statements: Spain and the Netherlands look very strong. They both have a group of young players ready to make the leap to superstar status (Torres and Villa for Spain, Sneijder and Kuyt for the Netherlands). Being Ducth I have to root for the Oranje, but Portugal’s dominance of the Czechs and Cristiano Ronaldo’s masterful performance in club football this passed season makes me weary. But like I said, go Oranje!

Wow! Things are going great so far!

Portugal seems to be going strong, while Switzerland, the host, is already out. Croatia just surprised Germany with a great game, and in our death group Italy, the world champ, isn’t doing too well.

We’ve had some great exciting twists, and hopefully it’ll just keep getting better and better!

I still have my hopes up for the Netherlands! They’re playing right now, and already got a fast goal against France. Sweet.

Turkey is in, Czech Republic is out?? That was quite the twist, what a game…

It seems like we have more than half the participants of quarter finals lined up already. Anybody wants to change their bets?

I am upset over today’s results. I can live with a Netherlands Victory.. but I was counting on France to take Italy out as payback for the last World Cup.

Hmm… so, Portugal out… didn’t see that one coming.

Here are my predictions- Croatia will beat Turkey and will tie against Germany, but Germany will win in penalty shots.

Netherlands will win, but they’ll make a tough show out of it. Italy will surprise Spain in penalties again, but they won’t manage to win against the Netherlands. Then the oranje will win the finals against Germany and take the Cup.

Well, either that or the exact opposite will happen.

What do you think? Any takers on this one?
